At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology, a position as Professor in Urban Design is open for appointment from December 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter.
The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology’s goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The research field of urban design at Aalborg University customize interdisciplinary and critical-creative research methods to the specificities of people and places, to inquire into critical agendas for cities and territories. The groups seek to create knowledge that can influence the creation of sustainable urban futures. Doing research that critical investigate how, what and for whom these urban futures are for. Our dynamic research in the field of urban design is grounded by two key components. The first, how we can reimagine our built, lived and experienced environment to create new futures, and the second to situate our findings and results through action, in the form of practical design solutions, policies, curatorial experiments and strategies. You are an experienced researcher with a strong track record and relevant background in urban design. You must have a strong theoretical and methodological foundation and have relevant experience within the field of urban design, focusing on the societal and spatial transformation of the existing built environment – exploring possible ways of action and theoretical and methodological conceptualizations. Emphasis is on urban design theories and methods on place-specific methods, approaches and theories as well as research within user-involvement, participatory processes and co-creation. You are a researcher with research experience within urban and landscape transformation, focusing on regional development and the urban and rural areas out-side the urban growth centers as well as research experience on the processes of urbanization and the dynamic relations between growing and shrinking territories.
We expect that you have experience with research group leadership and with project management. Moreover, we expect that you have experience from research projects including both internal and external funding, and external reporting to funds, public authorities etc. You must have a solid network, which includes collaboration with other universities, public and private authorities and funds. Furthermore, we expect that you have experience with research strategy building as well as management experience both organizational and administratively including organizational development, staff care and mentoring as well as organizational and leadership experience in relation to university administration.
You will be part of an ambitious research and teaching environment and it is expected that you will be a leading figure in the further development of the section of Architecture and Urban Design and the urban design research at the department. Thus, we expect that you will actively participate in the daily life at the department and actively contribute to the knowledge production through publications, externally funded research projects, networking etc. Finally, the position will contain teaching obligations in relation to teaching programs related to the urban design study program.

Qualification requirements:
The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.
